Personalized Jean Jackets

Personalized Jean Jackets

This series of projects is more for myself as a painter/illustrator, as that was my background coming in graphic design. As I mentioned in my screen printing series, doing visual arts helps me take a “a break from the digital work that I do for my design classes and go back to doing physical designs.” This doesn’t mean that I don’t like to do designs, it means that I’m willing to explore other fields and bring the sort of lessons I learn back into my designs later on. These projects started out for one of my friends and I ended up doing 3 as a group gift for Christmas 2017. I chose the sort of designs based off of what my friends like on their clothes and even the style of the jean jackets were chosen carefully to specifically fit their personal style. Each project had its inspiration: Project 1 - River Island's Thanks for Nothing, Project 2 - NaiveNeedle's Flamingo Embroidery, and Project 3 - PeaceLoveSoulandCo's Grateful Dead Album Jacket. For each jacket, I made a stencil from Illustrator (except for Hollie's project as the intricacy was hard to vectorize), printed it out and hand cut it so it would make it easier to apply the paint precisely.  I did this because fabric paint is a new medium to me, so having a stencil would help make the process easier. I definitely did made mistakes on painting and working with the stencil, but I have another jean jacket concept in the works so I will take what I learned with these three and apply them to my next work!
